I would skip Green Street Smoked Meats and Eleven City Diner. Maybe check out Avec is which is still in the West Loop for brunch or dinner. You could also hit up Manny’s. And don’t listen to these saying skip Lou Malnatis, especially if deep dish is what you’re after.

>But that was in 2018. If Kessler thought Chicago’s dining scene was bad back then, it’s arguably worse today. >Ground Zero is the West Loop, which Kessler touched on in point three. Before Covid, a strong argument could be made that Kessler was wrong about the neighborhood. Yes, restaurant groups such as Lettuce Entertain You and the Boka Group were present and expanding but they weren’t dominating the area (notably, Hogsalt Hospitality owners of Au Cheval, High Five Ramen, Green Street Smoked Meats, and other restaurants gets a pass from 2018 Kessler, and Au Cheval’s burger is praised as one of the best in the country). >Back then the West Loop was considered, implicitly if not explicitly, as the new engine of Chicago’s restaurant scene. Just go east to west down

I think Chicago has a lot of great brew pubs. If you like beer, Forbidden Root in West Town is one of my favorites. Green Street Smoked Meats in West Loop has some great BBQ. They both feel like Chicago to me.

Yes!! I’m from arkansas. Uncle Julio’s is Tex mex heaven. And green street smoked meats has AWESOME bbq that tastes similar to home. I’ve heard wishbone has some awesome southern style food but I haven’t tried it yet. It’s next on my list.

Former night shift nurse. Near West side because it’s so close to medical district still has a few of 2-4 AM places where the staff is pretty friendly to noghtshifters. Green street smoked meats is a favorite.

I saw a bunch of guys (bachelor party) go ham at Green Street Smoked Meats. They were insanely exhausted and hungover lol

I second green street smoked meats. Their pork belly and brisket are amazing. (Located in west loop, lively scene, bars) I love the arepas at bienmesabe (close to millennium park) then walk along the river walk and eat it there.

Burgers: Au Cheval (probably the popular pick for “best”; long wait), Small Cheval (casual counter serve; sister restaurant of Au Cheval, but different burgers), Mott Street (Asian fusion), the Loyalist (sister restaurant of Michelin starred Smyth), Lucy’s (*great* smash burger, really underrated), Little Bad Wolf, Red Hot Ranch (casual counter serve; smash burgers). Pizza: Spaca Napoli (*great*, classic Neapolitan style), Coalfire (Neapolitan style, interesting options), Pat’s (tavern style), Michael’s (tavern style), Pauli Gee’s (very good Detroit style and wood fired), Pequad’s (sort of a Chicago/Detroit style hybrid), Lou Malnati’s (classic Chicago deep dish). Tacos: Lots of great options depending on the neighborhood. I really like L’Patron and Chicago Taco Authority. Internatio

I would highly recommend Sushi Dokku in the West Loop and sit at the sushi counter. Great food and really fun to watch the chefs make each roll. Would also recommend Green Street Smoked Meats at the bar

I love Green Street Smoked Meats. The corn is to die for, as is the cheddar jalapeno sausage.

Green Street Smoked Meats is the best I’ve come across. Couldn’t believe my friends from Chicago didn’t know you’re only supposed to order half lean half fatty for brisket. As my middle school teachers from Texas would say, damn Yankees.

The riverboat architecture tours are great. Even as a local I really enjoy them. If you want to try a micro brew with some good food I would recommend Corridor in Lakeview. Green street smoked meats is good BBQ. Brought my Texan friends there and even they approved. There is a very good ramen place in the basement there too, if you want to go there get in the line early before it opens.

You're back. Who's been inspecting the elevators in your absence? Also - Nando's, PQM, and Green Street Smoked Meats

Carriage House used to be great but they kinda changed the focus to push more bar business. You can still get a good lowcountry boil or shrimp and grits though. And skip brunch. Big Jones in Andersonville is delicious for any time. If you want the beef fat fried chicken that has to be ordered ahead of time when you make your reso. You don't need a reservation unless you want the chicken but I'd still recommend it. Also it's not terribly expensive like reservation-only places. Angry Crab up above Lincoln Square does killer spicy shellfish served in plastic bags, real trashy style. I've never been able to get in but some other southern transplant friends say it's the real deal. Last time I tried to go they stopped seating at 8 or so (they're opened way later but people bring beer and camp ou
