The story

From the business

Beach Avenue BBQ was formed in 2016 by neighbors Juan Silva and Christopher Chin, who bonded over their shared passion for barbecuing and smoking meat in their backyards. Juan Silva, a seasoned chef, learned from pitmaster Phil Wingo and focuses on serving quality BBQ. Christopher Chin believes that properly prepared BBQ does not require sauce. The business emphasizes using locally sourced, sustainable ingredients like pasture-raised pork and grass-fed beef. They are known for their "low and slow" approach, with brisket taking over 12 hours to prepare, and they offer a mix of traditional BBQ and different offerings like smoked birria tacos.

I'm also an ex-Nashvillain and Fry the Coop is definitely good (and yes, they seem to have lowered prices recently - got a 3 tender plate last week for only like $12.99??). West Town location is right around the corner from a non-profit I'm at a bunch so I eat it pretty frequently. Hot is a good tingle, but the next level up has me experiencing colors. Never tried the tippy-top heat level. I'll definitely need to try Chubby's soon - I'm in Brookfield so it's not like it's far. For my vote that hasn't been said, Beach Avenue BBQ here in the Brookfield is *very* close to a real (Nashville) Hot Chicken with the oil dip (not the dry dusted like FtC). I ordered the hot there an it was pretty mild, but I have a pretty high spice tolerance. I've been to Dave's once and thought it was trash

Brookfield - Beach Avenue BBQ

Just saw this place driving by the other day. Is it any good, and if so, consistently good? Looked on Yelp, and seems decent, but with BBQ you can never really be sure. My go to around here is Smoque and sometimes Firewater in Elmhurst/Lombard. Interested to see how it compares to those places from people who have been there. Thanks in advance Redditors!

I live nearby and my wife is a cancer patient at Loyola. A couple additions to what people have already called out. All of these can be done as takeout and brought to the hospital. Not sure what treatment you're going through but my wife had no issues bringing food in during chemo. \- Gina's Italian Ice in Berwyn - lots of flavors, but note that they don't take cards - cash, or venmo/zelle. \- Johnnie's Beef (mentioned above already) - great sandwiches, also great Italian Ice \- Freddie's Pizza on 16th in Cicero - It's basically an old italian corner grocer - pizza, deli sandwiches, pasta, italian ice, gelato... \- Stella's Batting Cages (yes I'm serious.) The chef came up through some serious restaurants in the city before taking over the kitchen at his parents' batting cages. [ht

Burger Antics is right over in Brookfield. While some love it, I'm not a big fan of gussied up burgers and would probably head to Beach Avenue BBQ. As to quirky vs bizarre, matter of perspective. For sake of comparison, this is what I consider bizarre: [http://www.californiacuriosities.com/the-california-institute-of-abnormal-arts/](http://www.californiacuriosities.com/the-california-institute-of-abnormal-arts/)
