All-Out Smoke Pit

@one-butterfly-9150 Tinley Park/Frankfort Square/ Mokena has a ton of situations where outsiders come in right off i80 and commit a list of crimes. Previously lived in Brookside Glen, our neighbor was held at gun point in her driveway at 6:30am robbed and car was stolen. This exact thing has happened several more times in Brookside Glen neighborhood, all of this is always posted on the neighborhood ring camera app. Police are obviously called, reports taken, no news cameras.

they’re pretty much all the same. it’s like a traveling carnival that moves from town to town each weekend. they pepper in local establishments to make them feel more, uhh, local. they’re moving from tinley park this weekend to lake in the hills next weekend.

Yeah Frankfort, Mokena, and New Lenox are fine if you’re trying to raise a family. Other than that, it’s just a bland suburban area. Hell I moved to Tinley Park prior to moving to the city and while that’s a slightly better area than Frankfort, Mokena, and New Lenox, I still wouldn’t move back. You need a car to get around and even though I lived in walking distance of the downtown area with the metra station and bars on oak park, it still got old really quick. Not to mention it cost $195 a month to take the metra downtown and back for work each day. And also, if you didn’t take the express train, it’d be at least an hour from lasalle to tinley if there were no signal issues, mechanical issues. Don’t miss that part at all.

I’ve accompanied my sister for concerts in the Tinley Park Amphitheatre and it’s definitely one of the easier venues to navigate. While parking tell the attendants you need accessible parking and they provide you a separate spot with more space (its all gravel though, heads up). Head to the entrance and there’s a separate line to get inside and after, follow the signs to your section where there’s a labeled ADA check-in table. They’ll direct you and give you both a bracelet so you can come and go. Then you go to your section and its a small area with other people possibly sitting there as well (its only big enough for two rows) and they have folding chairs. After being to Northerly Island a few times, it would take a lot for me to go to Alpine Valley or Tinley Park again. All three places are run by Live Nation, so the organizers and performers kind of get to choose where they will play. If you work downtown anyway, and there is a show you want to go to over there on a weeknight, you can just walk the couple miles to get there.

A lot of businesses don’t seem to be flocking like they once were. My wife and I were looking to move about 15 months ago, before we bought our current house. I couldn’t even look in Orland due to him being mayor and the overwhelming sense of “everything should be ran the Red way” that just seems to permeate the air there. Like if you go just a few miles down into Tinley park, the entire vibe changes. I’ve lived in those areas and oak forest all my life until semi recently, as mentioned above. I go to Orland as little as possible nowadays but man, even just like a decade ago or so it was great. Had a whole different feel. But fuck that place now

Well said the move to Arlington will cut off mostly all southside fans and south suburbs Joliet, Orland park, tinley park etc

Pub Trivia nights in SW Suburbs?

Hi all! Anybody have any good spots for pub trivia around Orland Park/Frankfort/Mokena/Tinley Park areas? I’ve been checking some of the spots recommended on Yelp and most of the reviews that mention trivia are from several years ago. Any help would be appreciated :)

Tinley Park, Orland Park, Palos, Frankfort, New Lenox are all great options in the south suburbs with great schools.

Tinley Park hits all of those boxes too. Metra express from 80th Ave is 29 minutes to LaSalle.

University Park is to the south of the Chicagoland grid. It is quite rural, just outside of the metropolitan area of buses and much of the public transportation, though a metra line does run to it. To the south and east, you'll find rural communities and farm land. Many of these communities are blue collar and generally safe. Others are established, upper middle income areas. There will be some new construction, subdivisions, carved out of farm land, though not much infrastructure to provide for them except perhaps chain restaurants, etc. Some golf clubs and country clubs. The Indiana border is a short distance to the east, but I don't expect you'll find much to interest a college student unless you're looking for fireworks or livestock, strip malls. Covid vaccination blog: I received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine this morning. My local distribution site in Cook County was at the Tinley Park Convention center. My appointment was for 9AM and I arrived 45 minutes early. The whole visit was so efficient that I was back in my car by 9AM. I had previously registered for the vaccine. I grew up on the far southwest side in the 2000s until now, in a strictly middle class. I don't technically live in a good neighborhood per se, but everyone on my block seems to be old middle class southern transplants from the Great Migration who own their homes and keep the area stable. Not enough young people from the area for their to be much crime (though our house was broken into once back when we didn't have a fence against the alley). Honestly as far as finding a motel/hotel for $50-60, and if by some chance you don't consider an AirBNB or any of the bed and breakfast places(i.e. whatever the one is north of Lawrence/Clark, that I always forget the name of), you're going to have a damn hard time finding one that cheap in Chicago or the suburbs. If you don't mind that it's more like a 2 star place and a little older, you could possibly check out the Heart O' Chicago motel(per google it's currently listed at $93 a night, and $110 after taxes) just west of Ridge and Clark. That location actually isn't bad IMO, since you're close to 2 bus routes(#84 Peterson, and the #22 Clark bus which is 24 hours).
